The operation of the electronic stability control is by no means complex. In the event of a skid , in fact, the ESP control unit  intervenes on the power of the engine and on the brakes, in order to generate a force that contrasts the skid and corrects the trajectory, thus favoring the resumption of control of the vehicle by the driver.

ESP intervenes on the front or rear wheels depending on whether you come across oversteer or understeer as well as acting directly on the brakes and on the engine to decrease the revolutions of the wheels themselves.

Thanks to this “take-off”, the  electronic stability control  is able to bring the car back on axis during a skid, safeguarding the safety of the passengers.

For example, if you have to tackle an uphill stretch of road covered by a layer of snow, it is advisable to deactivate the ESP since the system could intervene and block the car following the spinning of the drive wheels.

The same choice must be adopted when facing a soft ground. In these cases it is always preferable to deactivate the ESP to prevent the car from remaining stationary due to an incorrect interpretation of the control unit.
